so i picked up an otocinclus tonight for pocket change $1.49 and my question is do otto's need to have buddies or will 1 be good off

They seem to do better with a buddy, but they're OK on their own.

I've heard that they like to have a few buddies to han out with, but as Lotus said, they'll do alright on their own =3

Ditto. I have 1 and he seems to love having all the glass and fake plants he wants all to himself, but I feel bad for him because in a 75g he looks so small and lonely, so I am getting him some buddies when I get the chance.

It's neat to see them school and "work" together, but I have one in my tank and he's fine by himself.
