So I just got a guppy from my boyfriend. She's a female and MUCH larger than all of our other females. One of his friends from work gave her and several others to him, they were kept in an outdoor pond, oddly enough, which probably contributed to her enormous size.
Anyway, just underneath her gill area to about 1/4 of the way back her stomach, her scales don't lay flat. I find this odd, because all the fish I've seen with dropsy get very large through their entire stomach, and it happens very fast once it starts. BF has had his few of the batch for a week and a few days, and none of them have gotten any bigger, show any signs of stress, and they all have the poofy scales. They don't stick straight out either, they just don't lay flat.
I figure I might as well include of a photo, though my digi cam is broken and I only have a crappy cell camera to work with.
The odd coloured area is where I'm talking about. Here's a picture with it closely circled.
Anyone have any advice or ideas?
Thanks for any help in advance!
EDIT: Thought I'd mention I have her in quarantine in a bare-bottom tank to watch for odd poop and such.
