I have a fake piece of driftwood -assume it is ceramic of some sort - that has some color worn off and it is now white. Are acrylic paints or maybe a permanent marker OK to use to patch it up?
I personally wouldn't risk it, but if you are going to patch it up, add a few layers of epoxy paint and/or silicone over the wood so nothing bad leaks into the water.
