If luck is on my side these coming weeks, I may be the owner of a semi-new 37 gallon tank ^_^. My grandpa has lost interest in aquariums, unfortunately, and has offered me the tank(which is good. I'm just sad to lose my 'fish buddy' ;_;), along with a fluval filter. Something I can't pass up, so long as we're able to find space for it. A challenge, but it's looking promising.
I'm a little undecided what I want to do with it though.. but Panda cories are a definate.
I've done a some reading, but I do have a few questions..
To those that have/had them, how easy are they to care for? Sensitive or hardy? I do keep loaches, but cories have never really interested me till I saw these guys. :>
What's the maximum number you would stick in a 37 g.? I'd like at least 6, though more would be great.
Are neon tetras good tankmate ideas? Anything else that might work?
Ones I'd like to stay away from are danios(currently in my 30 g.) and rams (my luck with them is bad ><).
Thanks in advance for any advice ^_^

They (pandas) seems to be the more delicate ones as compare to other species like bronze cories, especially the small ones so do quarantine them properly. 6 is a good group to have since they do well in groups. The tankmate especially tetras is perfect.

I've had 4 panda cories for about a month now, and (knock wood) they seem to be doing just fine. They even made it through Hurricane Ivan and a week w/o power!

They're cute little fish. I have mine in w/6 harlequin rasboras and 1 otto. Oh, and 1 mystery snail, and so far so good...

best of luck! :)

They'd get along with any little tetras. I'd recommend cardinals or black neons above regular neons, as these are hardier and less prone to unexplained deaths. A little school of rasboras would look neat too. You could probably get quite a few schooling fish...37s are nice tall tanks.

When I had my panda cories they were very easy to care for (although quite a bit less active than my other cories). However I have a friend who has nothing but constant bad luck with pandas :(
I would try them cos if they work out they are verrry cute little fish :)
I would stay with a group of six pandas, unless the tank your getting is a "long".

Thanks for the info, it's been helpful :). I checked out the tetras my LFS carries and found some Black neons. I didn't really pay attention to the plain ole neons, so I wasn't sure if they were cardinals or not. Hopefully they get them[cardinals] in once in a while. I've always loved the look of that bright blue and red. I did pick up some glowlights for experience's sake today. The only tetras I've kept were some white skirts.

And the 37 I'm getting is about the same size as a 29g, but taller. :) The Walmart in my area sells them, with a stand, for about $200 Canadian.

I have about three or four Pandas right now. I first saw them a few years ago, and fell in love, I'm a Cory-person anyway. At the time they were about $8.99 (Canadian), they have since gone down in price. I find they like to be surrounded by my other bigger Corys. Please don't ask how many Corys I actually have, as I said, I am a Cory-person, or maybe Cory-freak would be more acurrate. Everytime I get a new Cory, the baby stays with the older ones of the same type, then once it is full grown, it mixes with the rest.

Nifty :). The one's at my LFS for about $6. So you'd recommend keeping a shoal of pandas with another cory type? (i'm starting to grow attached to them cories, even though I've yet to get that tank.. soon though!) If so, any recommends?
