IMO, no fish should be in a "fish bowl." Historically, paradise fish were one of the first fish to be kept in bowls, however, modern thought is that they should be kept in a fish tank with adequate filtration. Like a betta, they breath from the air, thus the ill-conceived notion that just because they don't "breath" in their water, they can be kept in dirty water.

No, not everyone that has a fish in a fish bowl has dirty water, but for those less dedicated, it's hard to make the commitment to keep up with all of those water changes on a regular basis. And, if your house temperature fluctuates a lot, it is hard on the fish. Personally, I think a small bowl is kind of cruel, fish need some room to swim around.

i am home all day (stay at home mom) and i don't mind wc's. and i was asking about the bowl bc my friend had offered me this awesome 2 1/2 gal vase that would look really nice if i used it to house my paradise fish. but i do know that they are good jumpers so i would have to find something to fit as a lid and i live in fl so most of the time my temp of my house is pretty normal. so i guess i am asking if 2 1/2 gals would be suitable for my paradise or would i have better luck with going and buying a betta.
