I have a 20 gallon tank that has parasites, unfortunately it's a planted/shrimp tank and pretty much all medication out there is not safe for inverts. Does anyone know of any treatment that is safe for shrimp? I had to treat my 10 gallon with coppersafe but luckily that has fish only. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Man that stinks, I have so many babies in there now it isn't going to be easy. I have also heard that if you treat your tank with coppersafe you'll never get rid of all the copper even with regular water changes. Do you know this to be true? I was also wondering if parasites can harm shrimp, they haven't been bothered so far. It is possible for them to carry parasites over into another tank right? I just don't want to contaminate my other tanks. Thanks for you help Lotus :)

You can remove copper/coppersafe with lots of water changes or using a copper removing resin. Yes, shrimp can probably carry parasites on them, or they will be in the water you transfer over with the shrimp.

What kind of parasites are you having a problem with?

Maybe the best thing would be to remove the fish and treat them in another tank. If there are no hosts for the parasites to live on, eventually they'll die off, but it may take a long time. There are some parasites that will bother shrimp, but as far as I know, not most of the common fish parasties. There's really very little info on shrimp disease out there. :(
