I bought 5 Neon Tetras a month ago and they're still doing great. But, that's not my problem. When I bough them, I let them sit in a bag in my tank for 30 minutes and then I put them in my Breeder Net. I actually did that because they were so small and I was afraid of my Platies picking on them. I was wondering if parasites can travel through the net and get into another fish. Should I use a QT next time? I am thinking about getting some Red Cherry Shrimp and maybe a male Swordtail.

Kiara-

I'm still relatively new to all of this so I've made quite a few mistakes. I know one of the biggest mistakes is dumping the water that the fish are in, in the bag, directly into the tank. It's my understanding that most often, this is where the diseases come from that may be introduced into your tank. All i know is that, the several times I've allowed the fish to adjust in the bag, poured the entire bag into a large bucket or QT after temperature adjustment and then netted them and put them in the big tank, the fish are now still fine. The ones that I dumped the whole bag, water included, into the tank now have ich. total bummer.

yes parasites hatch eggs or whathave you then float off to get your other fish.

you should be dumping the fish store water, i just pinch the bottom the the bag, dump the water and then dump the fish (who is out of water for a second) right from the bag to the tank.

Ich is present in every tank, stressed fish get sick, like rundown people catch colds.

What i did this time is i took time and put my small net in the bag (all of my Neons just swam in, lol) and (after i have had them adjust to the water temp) I put them in the Breeder Net in the tank. I never put any bit of water in my tank (unless, of course, it's dripping off the net). I've never had any of my fish get sick. I've had my Neons for about 6 weeks now.
