I know they are not able to um... have babies, but can they lay eggs? I have 3 parrot cichlids in a 55 gallon. One corner of the tank is compleaty covered in eggs (on the glass) I think the eggs look like catfish eggs but one of the parrot cichlids has been garding them and fanning them, not eating or any thing for 3 days.  The only cat fish in the tank are 1 pictus and 4 baby black fin sharks.  Every one is getting moved to a 150 gallon soonish.   Should I scrap the eggs off or will my parrot cichlid have issues with that?

Parrot cichlids and -Blood- Parrot cichlids are two different fish. Parrot Cichlids are a valid species from SA that can reproduce. -Blood- Parrot cichlids are the hybrid cross of what is believed to be a midas cichlid and Severum cichlids (some people think midasxcovict nobody knows for sure) that are mules and supposedly unable to reproduce although some aquarist have claimed to have Blood Parrots reproduce *shrug*

I would move your other fish but leave the protective one in with the eggs. You never know what you might get

Sounds like they're parrot cichlid eggs, so maybe they'll hatch, though they maybe won't as I've heard these things are infertile.  After 3 days they may be ready to hatch so see if anything happens.  Your parrot will have issues with you scraping off the eggs, though you can syphon off some young to another empty tank if you want, but he/she will probably have issues with that as well.  I'd probably leave any fry with the parent to see if they manage to raise anything

Yes, they are the hybrid parrot cichlids.  The cichlid is still sitting in the corner by the eggs.  I guess I will waite and see what happens if the eggs might hatch.

So then you've got blood parrots, the round, dumpy shaped fish that are usually bright orange or red with little beak-like mouths and big eyes. Cool if you got eggs out of one. Keep us updated if they hatch

Mine are the orange ones, someone kind of dumped them on me.  I have seen them with the markings of a firemouth and the normal round dumpy body of a parrot cichlid.  I have also seen ones with the top fin and the tail are one fin and sick up to a point.  The fish have a very hard time swimming because they don't have any thing to move around with.  They are suposed to be a different kind of blood parrot cichlid.  I feel very sorry for those fish.   :(

some peiple have gotten fry out of blood parrots. But most of the time the just fungus up and don't hatch, and then are eaten by the parents.
