Hello. Can anyone recommend a peaceful Botia sp. for a large, planted community tank. I plan to keep some more sensitive species such as dwarf croaking gouramis and Badis perch, as well as very peaceful but hardy schooling fish. I like yo-yo loaches, but I've heard many Botias are "semi-aggressive". I'm super-conservative about sensitive species in a community tank. In a large tank with lots of plants, will a small group of yo-yos bully the dwarfs and Badis? Any thoughts?

Botia striata is one of the most peaceful botias that is commonly available http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/botia_striata.html and they don't get to large. We have had both clown loaches and yoyo loaches in a community tank without problems so far, although both can get a little more aggressive as they age, I believe.

You could also think of other loaches like kuhlis or dojos, which are both peaceful. Alternatively, you could get cories, which aren't loaches (of course), but are very peaceful bottom feeders that are a lot of fun.

have you thought of a dwarf chain loach?they have a small adult size, are very peaceful compaired to most loach/botias and they have one of the most charming patterns of all the loaches, imo.the only catch is that they are fairly rare, the go on and off the endangered species list offen and are very seasonal.right now is the season though.they tend to run about 15-20 bucks a peice.last time i sen some it took all my willpower not to buy them, and i do mean all of it.

i think that this time of year corresponds with the spring/summer in the southern hemisphere.spring is a very good season for most fish,as that is when they spawn.of course always check what part of the world the fish comes from to anticipate the first shipments.
