i had one before, i dunno they were like odd, all head do is just dig into the sand, barely ever swam around, and it was rough feeding him cuz i never knew if he ate or not so it kept me kinda worried, one day i just came home and he was dead. Havent kept one since, it was in a 65 gallon with some cichlids i think or no, not sure

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I have 2 of them inna 29 gal. with a crab, a pleco, and 2 oscars. All they do is hang out in the gravel and I don't know if they eat or not. They like worms and I tried a meal worm in front of both their faces. Obviously they weren't interested. I probably need to try tubifex or black worms, huh? Anyone else?

get it a bigger tank asap.eels need real clean water and tight lids on their tanks keep it so tight that there isn't even a 1/4 of an inch for them to push through.eels love live food.try ghost shrimps and frozen krill on a feeding skewer.then wave the krll in front of the eel like it's alive to help ween the eel on to frozen food.eels also need smooth gravel they can burrow into.eelshave delicate skin and can get skin infections very easy.

Are you saying this out of personal experiece mike? I have the gravel piled 3/4 way around a piece of driftwood that has a cavity in the middle. The gravel is pretty deep too. And my eels ain't even big, but I'm trying to get some media and black sand ordered so I could start cycling my filter and 50 gal. tank. Anyway, I have access to ghost shrimp and frozen black worms but I'd have to work towards live black worms. And what are feeding skewers?

just the time i spent in a lfs.i haven't kept any eels personaly, they get too big for me.a feeding skewer is a thin plastic rod with a point on one end so you can stick food on it.there mainly used to help feed hard to feed fish that don't readily accept frozen food.just ask for one at your lfs and they should be able to get you one.in a pinch a regular old wooden skewer for shiskabobs should work

Well, I tried some little red worms from my backyard, mike. They worked when they moved underwater. I was wondering if silk worms would work. I want something with good nutritional value and I'm afraid that red worms won't cut it. Just something that sinks and moves a lot underwater, and is little enough in proportion to the eel. I'll try some shrimps too. I'll ask my boss for some skewers. And you're making me hungry with all this shiskabob talk.
