I bought one of these last night for my 55 gallon tank. Any thoughts or comments on it's performance from anyone who has one? I LIKE it so far, I think. I really like the biowheels and the extra media containers.

But I mean, as a basic rule for a moderately stocked tank, what is the rule of thumb? I did a little searching here on MFT and saw anything from 3-10 times per hour. I have a 55 gallon, this filter is rated for 400 GPH, that would be *almost* 8 times per hour, does this seem adequate? My tanks' inhabitants are:
1 african butterfly
1 red tailed black shark
1 adult angelfish
20 assorted danios
6 neon tetras
3 pristella tetras
6 cory cats
2 kribensis & 15 four day old fry
1 striata loach
?

Yeah that sounds fine.

I've always went with a properly stocked tank with community fish should at least have a 5 times an hour turn over. more than that is fine.

Some of your more sensitive fish, or fish that need really clean water, or overstocked tanks upwords of 10+.

But this is just what I prefer to go by.

i am using the emperor 400 on my 40g and i love it :) keeps the water sparkly clean even when i'm overstocked. And i realy like the prefilter thing on the emperor 400 compared to my old penguin 300 which prefilter which didn't work too well. Also i really like the spraybar and the biowheel combination :). Great filter *thumbsups
