hello,  ??? I'm new to fishkeeping, and I decided to by a tank after have sucess with my betta, which is still alive of course. I was reading about pH, and I was wondering, should I just buy fish that are suitable for the pH, or use onw of the pH reducing powders. Is it safe to use those powders? Anyways live in L.A and I tested my water which has given me a pH of 7.8

What's wrong with 7.8?
Most of the fishies you buy in the LFS here in S. Cal are bred under the same tap water conditions in S. Cal and many fish are hardy enough to do well with a high pH.

Only when you start worrying about breeding discus/angelfish should you think about pH.

i live in las vegas and our water is fairly hard and 7.4 ph last time i checked.if your realy want to change your ph try something that will make a gradual change driftwood, shells, peat ect... depending on which way you want the ph to shift.those store remides seem like more trouble than it's worth
