phosphate filter

my uncle says that phosphate filters dont do a real great job any opinions on that.i dont get the reason they wouldnt.he said something about ro water but in the long run for a 250g i dont think that would be the easiest.i did it once with his help(he only payed)should i get one?what brand what media?

The tap water here is very high in phosphates and I have had luck with Algone and also the phosphate removal media made by Fluval. Both have reduced the level in my tanks quickly. I think the Algone site is algone.com, but if not google it and it should come up.
