phosphate filter

my uncle says that phosphate filters dont do a real great job any opinions on that.i dont get the reason they wouldnt.he said something about ro water but in the long run for a 250g i dont think that would be the easiest.i did it once with his help(he only payed)should i get one?what brand what media?

Don't get one unless you really understand why you need one (or not).

well my petsmart recomended it becuase otherwise id being filling my aquarium with tap water and they said thats not good but i knew thats not good already so i trusted them on that.

The tap water here is very high in phosphates and I have had luck with Algone and also the phosphate removal media made by Fluval. Both have reduced the level in my tanks quickly. I think the Algone site is algone.com, but if not google it and it should come up.
