hi all.... just came in from playing out ... and saw.... the rams spawning :D:D:D they must have paired up then and shall i get BBS ready and baby food ? because i dont think theyll let them hatch because its the males actual second time he has spawned but the females first...here is some pics......
BTW the female keeps like chasing the male and making him guard the eggs.... i take it this is what the do right ? and what should i do ? e.g. keep water conditions up because i am scared of like destracting them and thinking that theyll eat the eggs thiking i am a predator or something lol... and also.. do rams like kinda dirty tanks ? because i have been away for the past week.. and there is like rotting leaves and tiny bits of poopish bits there...click on them to see them lol

as you can see... in the actual tank pic... some of the water has evaporated while i was on my hols.

Are you sure they're spitting them back out? I don't know the exact rituals of ram spawning, but they're cichlids nonetheless... Is this their first spawn? Sometimes it takes them a few spawns to get it right. Practice makes perfect!;)

Rams

Baby Rams are too small to eat BBS. You are going to need something smaller such as Microworms. I start my fry off on a product called Golden Pearls which is a fine powder food. There are different sizes but I use the 5-50 for a day or two then up to 100-200 and then I start feeding BBS at 7 days old. Feed the fry several times a day for 3 to 5 days. When feeding your fry, make sure turn off the air pump so the food isn't scattered all over the place. Also try and put the food under the water, not on the surface. Turn the filter off if necessary. Frequent, but small, water changes are necessary since the fry are easily poisoned by ammonia and nitrite spikes. Feed lightly but often, many times a day.

Wow! Umm...Do you have a relative that can watch them? Because they can't rely on their parents to be fed (obv.), and they can't go without, because they will die. I'm not sure what you'd feed them either. I think live foods (like newly hatched brine shrimp) are best, to get them off to a healthy start (their mouths are tiny too)...I'm no expert on ram babies, so, hopefully somebody else will know what you should do!

;) I've watched my angels (R.I.P:( ) spawn before..;)
