Pictus vs. Cories (Poll)

I'm gonna be doing a 75g gourami tank.

Which would you recommend ?

a) A school of various cory cats
b) A pictus cat and some clown loaches

I really like the pictus cat, it one of my favorite fish. The only draw back is I can't put any small fish in the tank. The main benefit of the cories is the ability to add some ottos, and either a school of tetras, rasboras or barbs. Also I can't keep both cories and pictus cats together. Should I get the pictus, I'd also add some loaches and a small pleco.

i would say corys.simply for the fact that gouramis are hard to predict and pictus have a soft skin vs the corys which have more of an armour plating.why not just stick with the loaches?clowns are tough fish once they settle into a tank and can hold their own against most gouramis.

Aw, gouramis aren't bad at all. I can't imgaine a gourami harrassing cories or pictus or loaches. They are not aggressive, just territorial to other gouramis (and some longfinned fish).

In doing a gourami tank, Im just skeptical of a tank of gouramis because the males ARE very territorial. I wouldnt' suggest mixing many gouramis together at all...but that's not the point of the thread so I'll shut up;)

you have never seen a full grown tri spot feeling territorial then.most gouramis are just fine but like with most fish there can be exceptions.using dwarf gouramis or mainly females would most likely prevent and major battles.

I totally agree with you theeyrietrainer, I think the Pictus I way better looking than the cories. The trade off however is not being able to keep any cherry barbs, small tetra or anything under 3 inches for that matter.

As for the gourami, I was planning on doing what catfishmike said, all female and maybe a couple of dwarfs.

Personally I would go with the pictus/clown loach option simply because they are two of my fave fish, (and unfortunately two of the most ich prone fish about :() But they still reign as my fave bottom feeders, and a 75 gal. would be great for them.
