I am battling with fin rot in 2 tanks for 2 different reasons. I 29g i am having very rare occasional fin rot on black neons (2 cases so far), usually one fish was affected. I isolated the fish in 1g jar ant treated it with Jungle Fungus clear for about 24-48 hr and returned the fish back home. The fish is recovering fast and fin grows back real quick. The reason usually is fin damage incurred either by puffer or possibly by pictus cat.
In cichlid tank I have severum who is prone to fin rot: slightest water deterioration and his fins are not that clear. So, th only method which helps is to do big water change (~50%) once a week plus small WC with some vacuuming in between (2-3 times).
