the thing you will run into is most river plants are adapted to colder water (I'd assume oregon rivers are on the cold side)...whereas your tank is much much warmer.

You would have to be carefull of introducing pathogens as well.
(as you do with all plants anyways ;))

I have thought about it;) but never went through with it.

I would be most worried about introducing alien things into my tank. Not only pathogens but many things are harberd in plants, like eggs of snails and who know what else. I would rather spend the money and know that the plants I have in my tank are safe. But on the other side, I have gotten snails from pet store plants and I'm sure they are not completly safe either. So if you know of a river or stream that is exceptionally clean, and it has plants in it you could try. There will always be a risk factor.

About the water temp. I would think that this would be the biggest problem, but I keep outdoor pond lillies in my aquarium that I got from my moms pond (we live in MO, so the pond freezes in the winter and the lilys still live) and they actually grow like weeds in the warm tank water!

thanks im just trying to get info . all i have at the moment r 3 little plastic fry hiders. my brother how lives in portland has a 5 foot long by 5 foot high saltwater tank which looks great but i have not the money for something like that so im trying to keep it simple and look nice.

wow 5x5 nice sized tank :D
i fu have an old contaer or tank

put the plants in there. fill it. drop in a few feeder goldy's
and do 25% dailt water changes
the feeders will be ok dont worry but if they end up belly up. the plant may be no good

i pu thorns wart in a taka nd because of the hot water all the pins fell of fit an dmade a mess lol
