I am looking at using plastic flowers (lots of them) in my 30 gallon tank from AC Moore, Michaels, etc ... are there any concerns with this? to me a plastic plant/flower (such as sold at Petsmart) will all be the same.

More importantly, what type of container can safely be used in the tank?

And what about using floral foam for placing them in -my wife does arrangements using that "green foam" as I call it.

Thanks,

hey this is right up my alley haha.

well not the foam thing... but as for the flowers since they are baseless...try putting them in a glass filled with gravel.

As long as the glass cannot fall over and break it is safe.
I even used an old coffee pot with an acrylic or plastic handle.
Also I used a sturdy glass candle holder for one flower bunch, a thick drinking glass and even a glass vase.
You've seen my tank pic...I'm thinking I inspired you...woo hoo, lol.*laughingc

Thoroughly rinse the flowers before putting them in your tank. Its that easy.

My only concern would be any metal that shows through the flower since that can rust.

Reply !

Hey Blue - thanks for the inspiration *laughingc and reply. I did buy some plastic flowers at AC Moore this morning ... The girl there told me that when you cut the stem (which is necessary for correct height), the wire can rust ... any thoughts on this endangering the fish? :( Should it be sealed somehow? My thinking was that by the time the rust gets bad (if at all) it'll be time to replace them anyway due to algae, etc ..

Also, I bought very small clay pots to plave them in (maybe) 2" in height .. any concerns about the clay ... I figured I'd cut to size .. fill pot with gravel stones .. and I'm done .. *DRUMMER*

Clay pots are fine...a lot of people use them with no ill effect.

Hmm...I'm really not sure how dangerous the rust is (for the fish).

Maybe you could get away with it if the root is deeply buried in the gravel. But I'm really not sure. Anyone else know??

I hope you post some pics when you're all done : )
