I recently bought 2 male platies for my 3 female platies (all in a 10g).well, one of my females died. now one of males pick on one of the females, to fix this i moved the male to a 2g. all he did in this tank is zip from one side to the next. so, i moved him into a 4x5 inch mesh cage in the 10g.

my question being: is he better off in the 2g or leave him in the mesh cage until the fry grow up?

I'd recommend either getting rid of one of the males, or getting another 2 females to put in the 10 gallon tank.

Housing the male in either a 2 gal. tank or a mesh 'penalty box' won't be much of a life for him---could take a while before you have fry.

Besides, where will all those fry be raised...in the 2 gallon tank?
This might be fine for a couple months, but you'll soon need another tank for raising the platies.
