Hi, I've had my betta for a year and a half now. It was in a community tank when it started to get fin rot. I moved it from the tank, brought it a new tank 25ltr but filled it up half with water from the previous tank and half with new tap water. I used tap safe to get the water perfect i've checked it and the water is fine.

I put aquarium salt in, a gentle filter, live plants, and I now feed him on a varried diet of betta flakes and freeze dried shrimp and i've been careful not to over feed him. I keep him at 75 degrees. Hes making a bubble nest so he must be happy in his enviroment but he's not getting better. How can I make him better?

Thanks for your time :)

I wouldn't use melafix (or bettafix which is just a diluted form of melafix) some have reported during treatment that the fins started to "melt". Take a look at this: http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/bet...a-mela-pima-products-bettas-gouramis-etc.html I have recently added a new link to it. If you search "bettafix bad for bettas" you will find more info. Some love it- will always use it, but others will never touch it again.

I would use the aquarium salt (1tsp per gallon - I usually dissolve it in treated water and pour in a bit at a time waiting a couple minutes before adding more) and lots of clean water (should be clean enough that you would drink it (not that you would want to- lol)).

Keep using the salt and doing the water changes even after the black/red tip is gone- it will help to heal the fins. Fin rot, usually caused by poor water quality (in no way am I saying your tank is dirty) is fairly common in bettas. It can be treated and prevented- keeping up on water changes and monitoring water parameters, especially in the first little while when the tank is cycling.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. ;)

Thanks for your help, I will only use the melafix as a last resort because I haven't heard many positive things about it.

I already use aquarium salt but i'm going to start doing more water changes and hopefully he will get better.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :)
