I have a 1 year old black moor, with an unusually long and flowing tail. A couple of days ago, there was a filter accident. His fins are extremely frayed, and the other fish started nipping at them. I put him in his own 5 gallon tank, with minimal water flow. I turn the filter on whenever i'm looking at the tank, so as to be sure he doesnt get "sucked up" again. I buried the end of the filter intake with rocks. I added a pinch of aquarium salt, and have been doing Melafix treatments. all he does is sit on the bottom, looking lifeless. A tap on the glass reassures me that he's not, he struggles to move a couple of inches. Every time he tries to swim, fragments of his tail fall of and float in the water. this little guy is my favorite fish. please help me save him!:confused::confused::(:(:(

You have done the right steps to helping him get better. If its a new tank that has not cycled keep an eye on the ammonia level and change water to keep it low if any shows up on the test. You might even have to do daily water changes to keep the water quality up anyway seeing that goldies can make a lot of waste and sour the water very fast. What temp are you keeping the tank? An elevated temp might help slow or stop infection but, you are using Melafix so it may not matter much anyway.
