Over the last few days, maybe the last week, my synspillum cichlid developed a strange "pimple" on his body, right behind his head/gills right in front of his side fin(sorry, I don't know how else to explain it) Seems like it came out of nowhere, but I know these things sometimes take a while before they actually SHOW. He is still eating, still swimming fine, still the same fish as he's always been. I don't know if its serious, but I don't want it to become serious. No other fish have ANY problems, actually, my tank has NEVER had any kind of problems except for a algae bloom that I just got rid of. Thanks for the help in advance. PLEASE HELP. THANKS
P.S. That is the best photo I can get at the moment, I'll try again later. He kinda got upset because of the flash. Lol

I had a serpae tetra that looked very much like that at first (It was a little farther back on his body.) It was very white. Seemed happy and normal. I even thought it went away one day, but it was back again in a day or two. The tank has been stable for months. Then I was gone for a couple of days and upon return it looked like when you get a blister full of water, almost the size of half a pea. He was still fine and eating, but a day or two later I found him dead, the bubble had burst and he looked like he just had a hole in him - almost like he was shot! When I mentioned it at the store, they said it was probably an internal parasite. Hasn't affected any of the other fish.

Ok, I was just at the fish store talking to one of the only employee's there that I actually trust. He said his cichlid gets it sometimes, and to just treat it with some aquarium salt. I didn't have my phone with me, so I couldn't show him the picture, but from my explanation he said it was almost exactly what I called it, a "pimple" and that it should pop within a few days and then IF I keep up with the water changes and make sure it clean, it should clear up soon after it pops. Does this sound right?? I usually trust this guy, he does know fish. He's helped me out numerous times in the past. Ijust wanna know if this is the right thing to do, I do love my fish, all of them.

Sunshine our large severum also had a large pimple develop on her, then a few days later I noticed a worm extruding from it, the LFS had me treat the tank but it didn't kill the worm, I could see that it would change in length from day to day, the LFS then suggested a stronger medication but I didn't go for that, I netted Sunshine put her in a glass cake pan with enough water to cover her gills and pulled the worm with a tweezers, then massaged the area expelling 2 or 3 drops of puss, that was more than 6 weeks ago and Sunshine is doing great.

I have treated my tank with aquarium salt, the guy at my LFS said it could help. I really don't think it has tho. My fish still seems to be doing good tho, hasn't slowed him down at all. Still eating and swimming as usual. After ythe last post, it does seem kinda "worm" looking, but I can't be sure. Maybe jus my mind tryin to see it. I attached a more recent pic, what do you guys think??
Sorry about the pic, he is being Really difficult right now.

In my situation I could see the worm protruding from the pimple 1/16'' at most, and Sunshine was doing lots of rubbing on rocks and gravel.

It looks like it's external if it where my fish I believe I would try a light scraping, I think that would be less stressful than medicating, IMO

Update.

Jus wanted to give you guys an update on my lil "situation". I waited a couple days to see if the aquarium salt was doing any good, it wasn't. I removed the affected fish (just the one) and put him into my quarantine tank. I dosed the tank with MELAFIX, half teaspoon daily for 7 days, 25 percent water change on 7th day. Cleared up within the first week, but I let him stay an extra couple days to be sure. He's currently back in the display tank with everyone else. Swimming great, still as lively as ever. The "pimple" seemed to be growing when I was jus using the aquarium salt, that's why I decided to bump up the meds. I hope I did actually treat it, instead of jus making it look better. But time will tell. Thanks for all your tips and suggestions. Will update again, IF the problem comes back. Thanks again
