Hi guys,
I faced some problems with my 2 flame gouramis.
One of them probably had internal parasites (white stringy poop, lethatgy)and another one is having something like fin rot.
I've set up hospital tank (10g) as an emergency and it was not cycled of course.
Well, I started to treat them with Maracyn 1 and 2. And I had to change water almost everyday. It's why the treatment was weaker than it should be.
One G. with internal parasites is looking good: his poop is improved and his body is clean and of good color. His appetite became much better.
Unfortunately my second G. is not improving and he now got the white poop (?).
He probably has really tough infection that develops very slowly and not very contaigous: he lived in main tank for 3-4 weeks before this disease developed to the extent when I had no choice but to isolate him. All other fish in the main tank is great (already 2.5 weeks after he's gone).
Initially he had white spot on his lower fin and one of fin's bone became bare. Now after all treatment his fin deteriorated further and around white fringe his red color intensified. Also, he now has a few small white spots embedded in his upper fin and tail (nothing on the body). All this develops very very slowly.
I started to treat the tank with triple sulfa. Today is the second day and I do not see any improvements. Moreover I am anxious about the water params. I did not check today but I know that tomorrow it will be bad and instead suggested 25% wc I'll have to do all 75% wc.
Do anybody have any idea what's this?
What other treatment options do I have?
I'm so tired with these guys and spent already fortune on them and simply cannot allow them die on me after all I did for them
I'll greatly appreciate any suggestions.

It's really hard to say exactly what this is. Definitely doing a Maracyn I & II with water changes would have really made the treatment ineffectual. I would finish the course of triple sulfa and see if there has been an improvement.

Can you describe the white spots? Are they fluffy or smooth? Are they white or more gray?

One gourami with skin disease died overnight. I think that the disease was mostly internal: his belly swelled, he had troubles breathing... I am actually relieved because he suffered for so long...
Another guy is doing ok. I changed water and will be waiting for the tank to cycle reliably and watch for any signs of ailment. In 2-3 weeks I am planning to move my zebras from main tank to this and I won't buy any other fish for a while especially gouramis. *SLEEPING*

It sounds like it could be some kind of systemic bacterial infection. They are usually really hard to diagnose and treat :( If you can, you might want to re-treat with Maracyn I and II again, and see if the full dose helps. Maracyn II is usually recommended for something like this.

You might want to check out this site, it may be Flexibacter Columnaris: http://www.flippersandfins.net/flexibacter.htm

Thank you for your support, I believe that disease was internal because fins stated to clear just a little bit before he died. I am very hopeful that my another one will be fine. Good thing was that the disease was not very contagous and passed my other fish by. I will read about it more. I want to cycle the tank some more because it is really hard to do all wc and follow your advice give this tank another shot at Maracyn treatment.

Thanks!
