I have a goldfish who had ick, I have been treating the ick. All he does is sit at the surface right next to the power filter and pump his gills faster than ever. He also has blood streaks going up and down his fin. Is this all from ick? How long will this last? Is this fatal?
If anyone could answer just one of these quesitons I will appreciate it.

Ahh...yeah if the fish were just added 2 weeks ago and there wasn't another source of ammonia in the tank...then your tank is cycling. You should read through some of the threads that are stickied at the top of the beginner forum to see what you can expect with a cycling tank.

Sorry to hear about your gourami...I really dont know much about gouramis. Other info that people might be able to use to help you would be, how you were treating the ick (what medication) and then what temperature your tank is at. Also what size of tank and what other fish are in there.

Welcome to mft :)

Oh wow...

Normally I'd blame it on a blonde moment...but uh...this time I'm going to use it as one more reason I'm going on vacation :) Course...I dont know much about goldfish either, so my statement still stands...just replace Gourami with goldfish. SORRY!

I just have a 5 gallon tank, i had the one goldfish in there for 2 years, then i was at the pet store, and the clerk said i could add 2 more fish and it would be ok, I was/am obviously a novice with fish and believed him. THen i did some research that this tank was too small for even one goldfish. Regardless i put coppersafe in the tank and took the carbon out of my filter as i was advised to.
