Please help me, I am brand new to your forum site but I would love some help. I have kept goldfish for 12 years now and love them. I have a tank which is 24"x15"x12" which I think is about 13 gallons, how many smallish goldfish should I have in there please, I have had friends tell me different numbers but I was wandering what you experts say, thanks

My general suggestion is 20 gallons for the first goldfish and then an extra 10 gallons for every fish after that, and that is just for the smaller goldfish, not the jumbo ones. The reason is that these fish are especially big waste producers and quickly soil their water, so they require more room than other fish to support their bio loads.
