pleco behavior

Peaking in on my aquarium after the lights
have been out for several hours... I see the
common pleco upside down in the rear corner
of the tank right at the surface.
I keep the flashlight on him a few seconds then he
gets startled and swims down and out of sight...
A few minutes later he is up there again....

I will look for this behavior in future, but I was
wondering if other hobbiest have noticed this
with some of their plecs?

This tank is a 55 gal with assorted South American
fish....

My pleco use to jump out onto the run off area of my filter... he would just stay up there for like 30-45min at a time.. he was a very happy pleco ... until an ick outbreak while on Vactaion and my mother did'nt know what was going on, plus did'nt want to tell me that my fish had all died until I returned..

but yeah.. I think that is normal, the pleco could just be really liking that spot and making it his own.. fish are werid.
