I was walking out to work this morning and noticed that right beneath his sucker, it looks like it has hollowed out! I've got an oscar and a gold severum. We've never had a problem with them getting aggressive. What's going on here? Can this be fixed or is he going to be doing figure 8's through the pearly gates?

Ok. You know where is sucker is. Like directly below it is where the damage is. To me, his stomach seems like it would be lower on the body. As a side note, I've recently seen these tiny tiny white worm looking things in the tank that are as thin as a piece of hair and squiggle all over the tank. I don't see very many but every once in a while, especially when I clean the tank I see them. Any ideas about thsi?

they sound like planaria to me...the tiny white worm-looking things. if theyre planaria, theres nothing to worry about as they dont do your tank any harm and some fish like to eat them :) including some plecos...but anyways, are you sure your pleco is eating good? do you feed him any kinds of shrinking pellets?

Starvation?

If you don't feed him, could it be that your fish is starving? Is there enough algae in the tank to seriously sustain a fish?

Many people supplement their Pleco with algae wafers, etc. Could this be an idea?

If it's not lack of food, I don't know what to tell you. Possibly a parasite, taking control over your Pleco's nutrients, and in effect, starving it.

Good luck.

If your fish is suffering from an injury/wound, I would treat against secondary infections (both fungal and bacterial). Here is one product (of probably many) PimaFix. Maybe use it in conjunction with Melafix. I have never used either product, so I can not comment on their effectiveness.

Well guys, I am sorry to say that when I got home from work today, I found that the fish had died. My Oscar and Gold Severum like ate him. His stomach was like, eaten out. It was pretty nasty. I did a 60% water change and everything seems to be back to normal. Thanks for your help!
