pleco id please!

I got this guy at a lfs (not my usual one) and can't find him anywhere. Sorry the pics are fuzzy, still getting used to my new camera. This guy doesn't have bright gold spots they are irregular lightbrown/gold color. Any guesses?

I am assuming you've already checked http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/index.htm look under Loricariidae or L numbers. I don't know plecos. I'd say goldnugget but I am probably wrong. Someone else here might know.

I'd say spotted sailfin. I have on they get BIG so if ya do find it and youre tank isnt too big then you'll be lucky to have it a year b4 taking it back to ya lfs. I've seen them grow to 30 cm before!
older they get thought the better they look in my opinion.

yup - it's a sailfin

varied diet - flake - prawns - veg - algae - and it would really appreciate a bit of wood in the tank to graze on.

I had one before and I was just at my LFS the other day and was loooking at them how good are they???

Well mine eats a ton of algae. I thought I would be ok with just about every fish (except the real tank busters) since I have a 90 gallon tank. But do they really get 2 feet long??? If so I really screwed up this buy.

Thanks for the info, that is def. him! planetcatfish says he will grow to 18" which will be managable in my 90 i think. It also says not to have any other plecos his size in the tank b/c he will outcompete it for food. But my common plec is quite a pig! He's about 13" now (the common plec) and my L83 is about 2". How do you think they will be when full grown? Oh yeah, i have plenty of filtration too. There is an Emperor 400 and an eheim 2215 cannister running and the 400 is cleaned out every week.

I don't think it's going to work when they're both full grown. Large plecos need large tanks, and get pretty territorial.

I guess it's an excuse to get another larger tank, later on.
