pleco species?

does anyone know what type of plec this is? i found it on a site about amazonian fish. has anyone seen these for sale?

btw the site says it's a new species, part of the latin name is panaque. does anyone know the common name or if it is for sale?

I haven't seen one- panague is the "royal pleco" type isn't it? I wonder if that fish gets huge? there is a nifty green one on the river wonders website right now. That's a cool site but the price tags are pretty hefty on their plecos.

yeah i did google image searches for things like "amazon catfish", "amazon fish", etc. and found this beauty. man, the pleco varieties are almost infinite!!! there are so many.

oh, and it's panaque with a "q" not a "g".

are you sure thats not a hack job with a photo prorgam?can you link the site?the head looks totaly pasted on,but then again you never know with plecos.it's got marbling,spots and stripes.that just don't sound right.

hmm it does look similar, maybe just a color variation. well im gonna see if i can find any of these and the other small plecos like them. should be interesting to see what i can dig up.

does look kinda wierd, but that's what makes it cool. it's got the head of a common pleco, the body of a zebra, but with orange instead of white, and a spotted tail. pleco variations are amazing.

looks pretty close to a l271 but the pic at planetcat looks much more natural.i think it's the ligthing or angle that makes it look weird

the catch on the l-271 and the fish pictured is location.the l-271 was listed as being found in brazil http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/panaque/233_f.php the company with the fish pic seems to be based out of iquitos,peru.

close, but as mike said the one i posted was found in peru. and it seems to have some different characteristics. in some animals, even just a minute detail can totally change the species.

by characteristics i meant other than color. the fins and head are different. very interesting... i haven't been able to find anything on these, apart from planet catfish. and that it's supposedly a panaque species, so it's related to the royal pleco group.
