I'm making the leap with my first mandarin. I know my pod population is great in my fuge and I see them all the time in my tank. I know you can make little pod piles in the display to keep a safe house for them as well. Since I don't have any rock to use what about a teracotta pot that I crushed up? Hopefullly the mandarin will take prepared foods, but you never know.

Joe I have heard that the green mandarins are easier than the blue ones.....not sure if there is any truth to that or not. Good luck. Unfortunately I have a 6 line that has decimated my pod population so no mandarin for me though I would love one.......

Hi Joe,

For my pod piles I used smashed seashells (bought a bag of them from a craft store for six dollars, unpolished and looking like they were just picked off the beach) and coral rubble which I bought from the LFS. I also used wads and wads of chaeto which is like steel wool and gives the pods a great place to hide and also they eat this stuff.

The pot should work fine too. Good luck!
