turns out the ammonia i bought to fishless cycle a 10 gallon contains surfactants. I think i read somewhere that this can poison the water. My question is if i make sure to change out all the water (a series of water changes) before later adding fish will i be ok ? Or will the bacteria just not grow at all in this water ?

Surfactants is any substance that lower the surface tension of any liquid and NH3 they are mostly detergents. And they are poisonous to fish.
If I were you, I would empty all the water, rinse all your décor, rocks, plants and filer media in hot water and start from square one.
Best way to tell if the “bottle” containing pure NH3 is to shake it vigorously and see if any bubbles are formed. If no bubbles are formed, then you have pure NH3.

i bought a bottle of ammonia just now. The ingrediants in the back say

soft water, Ammonium hydroxide, quality control agent(s).
Contains no phosphorus.

I shook it and no bubbles formed. The brand name is "Everday Living"

any idea if this would work, the only thing i could find anywhere that didnt have lemon scent or form bubbles when i shook.
