Hello,

Tank 30 gal. 4' long 2' tall and 6" wide.

After great deliberation I now have:
8 rosboras
3 shrimp
2 Ottos
1 Zebra snail
1 Pearl Gourami

4 Plants

My question is... could I add 8 of those shiny blue neons? or am I pushing it?

How large will the pearl get? and should he have a buddy?

Thank you
Randy

You have room since the neons won't get over an inch long and rasboras are similar in size as well.

The pearl will get between 4 - 5 inches. You have to be careful if you add another pearl since two male gouramis will be territorial towards each other.

I think those neons would look great and get along well with the fish you have.

I think the gourami will be best by itself.

I think the stocking level sounds good :) As long as you dont add all of those fish at the same time...and your tank has cycled or you have those live plants in there.

Oh...and of COURSE we want more pictures ;)

While pearls are perhaps the least aggressive of the gouramis, that is not to say that they aren't territorial just like the rest. It would be better to get one male or one male and a couple of females (then you run into spacial issues).

I absolutely swear that one of my male pearls used to be a she...till I woke up one day and it had seemingly developed male finnage overnight (well, not quite literally). One is dominant, the other is submissive. One hides almost all the time, the other is out and about. They aren't "mean" to each other, but it would be best to keep just one since you probably don't want a fish that hides all the time.

Hey Randy...

Yup, like everyone else said, neons are fine. I just bought 6 neons for $9.95 from Dads Fish store (99st & 81ave) and Henry (owner) gave me an extra for free.

I have a pair of pearl gourmi (young pair) that are getting long fine... but I think your pearl will be happier by himself. Don't worry, when he gets full grown (4ish inches), he will fill in the top of that tank just fine.

My wife is hiding all my saws, so I can't cut any holes in the wall :( I guess I will need to drop by again some time to get my fix!

Great, thanks for your imput.

My next mission is to slowly buy up the neons. I find it to be quite a treat to bring home a new fish on a friday afternoon - becomes a significant family event.
