yes it defineltly stresses them out. You want to try not to make them puff up. eventhough it looks really cool! I used to feed mine gold fish. I am sure a lot of people would say no to goldfish since it is not a natural food but mine loved them. He was my favorite fish. I losed him to ick though it was the sadest day :-[ well hope this helps
