Today I noticed one of my green barbs had a white spot..pretty good sized on his side. Later I noticed a couple of the other fish picking at it. Does he have ick? What else could it be if not. I have isolated him into a hospital tank and got the heat up to 82. Can any1 help?

if you haven't ever added salt to that hospital tank's water I suggest you add 1/2 teaspoon per gallon right now..

this does sound like ich..

you should probably treat your main tank with the same method unless you have live plants in there...or catfish

and make sure you do a water change BEFORE adding the salt, cuz if you did it after you obviously removed some of the salt you added and thus diluted your treatment ;)

Thanks Newman, my barb appears to be doing better. It has been 3 days now and the white spot appears to be getting fainter. It looks like his scales are re-growing in that area and he is starting to get his color back there. I think Ill keep him quaratined for the full 2 weeks to be sure the parasite dies and it's eggs can't hatch. I think I caught in time..my main tank show no signs of having any ick in it.
