i have a flowerhorn that freaks out when i turn on the light. when the light's on he'll dash to a corner and stay there. when it's off he'll swim around normal. but just last night his left eye ballooned up. does anybody have any advice for treatment?

Does it looked like he nicked it on a rock or other decoration? If he did you should wait and see how it looks in a few days. If fungus of some kind of bacterial growth begins to form you should treat with an antibiotic medication.

about 70% around his eye looks like its been cut up. his cheek is also swollen. i've been treating it with mythelene blue but it doesn't seem to be working. i also added some salt and have been doing small water changes. the fish also hasn't eaten in a little over a week. it just looks like something is eating up around the eye. by the way things are going it looks like his eyeball is going to fall out. after my next water change i think im gonna use a bacteria treater by azoo. the only thing with that is that it kills the good bacteria. i would greatly appreciate any advice.

There are many reasons for popeye - stress in one of them - and bacterial infection is another.

Find a med that treats for bacterial infection and fungal infection in one hit - there are loads out there that do it - and only a very few hurt the good cycle bacteria - if your med says it kills the filter then get a different med that doesn't.

The anti-bacterial med should cure the popeye - and the anti-fungal ingredient will help as this is an open wound as well.

I think Jungle labs do a combo med that doesn't kill the whole tank bacteria.

Good luck (but act fast)

damn, right below the eye (upper cheek area) looks like it bursted. it's a real big open wound now. there are also little clear sacks around the eye. the fish is breathing pretty hard too. should i put it out of its misery or wait and see what happens. i used maracyn 2 to treat it. this really sucks.

I've seen fish survive with one eye before - but that was a combat wound. If you can cure it it may survive as is - but if it's on-going then it'll take out the fish.

Did you try combo anti-bac and anti-fungal meds ? (I think M2 is gram neg - so watch your cycle)
