Hey just though it be useful for future use of this board to conduct a little survey relating to preference/use of power filters. Ill try to be broad and add the most popular models. Also for my own curiosity. You can post comments about ur filters, cons and pros, whatever u like. Just like a comment box on ur power filter

Well since you can only vote once in a poll I picked Whisper. Haven't had any problems/complaints with it thus far :) I also just got a ProAquatics powerfilter not too long ago and it seems to do its job pretty well too!

TetraTec PF150 with 100W integral heater. The filter is more bulky than others and I had to cut 1/2" off for the universal glass cover to fit. Filter MUST be tilted towards the tank which gives you even less clearance between the rim of the tank and the glass cover. I assume that this is the case with the larger TetraTec's as well.

I still use my Whispers and Tetras as back-ups, but sometimes I'm not sure if going over to Penguins made that much of a difference. I've been using them for five months now on all of my tanks, sans the betta tank, and I can't honestly say they're any better than the back-up filters.

In fact, I've had such a time with particulate matter in my 20g long tank (little white specks) that I've hooked one of the Whispers up to it along with the Penguin 130 to see if it helps. Chemistry seems fine, feeding is reduced and I do a weekly water change ... still, crap floating around.

i chose the penguing because of the overall quality of build and function.it has a large box that you can either keep using a filter cart,or stuff a sponge in like i do.it aeraites the water well(some people don't like the noise from this though)and they have high flow rates.i also love the aquaclear filters as well definetly a well made smart filter.i wish you could combine the best of both for a super filter.theroreticly the emperor would be a better filter, with all the options that it offers but i find that wheh i tryed to use any of the options my filter quality was compromised imo.the rest of the filters are about the same.the penn plax and liberty look like good hob's if the price is right.i would avoid the tetra and tetra tec
because they don't push enough water and i still support the ban on tetra.there are a few applications that the tetra whispers would be good though.
