Power heads

I have been hearing a lot about power heads, and im not that sure on waht they are, Can any one inform of what they do. thanks.

They are small submersible pumps that can be used for a variety of purposes including powering undergravel filters, creating currents in the water, returning water from a sump, pumping make-up water from another vessel, driving CO2 reactors, etc.
