I want some opinions.  I need two powerhead for my 125g FW.  I wanted to know what everyone is using, what is good, what to stay away from. Im not going to use and underground filter so that is not an issue, I want it just for currents.  And Id like something compact.
Thanks 8)

Maxijets are the cheapest and best powerheads for the money.  Although, could consider not getting any powerheads for a 125 and have multiple returns from one strong external pump from the sump.

That makes your tank look less cluttered.

People use manifold returns from one large external pump.

I agree with dattack about the multiple return thing but this only applies if you use a sump on your 125 :)   you could use a few smaller diameter outputs.. or put on 2 spraybars

Powerheads,  I use Hagen Pro 3, Pro 4, a Hagen 802 and the medium sized powersweep one.   If you want sheer water movement, go with the Hagen 802 or Pro 4. however these things are pretty big (about 4"x3" square) .    If you put 2 802's or Pro 4's at each end of the tank, you will have a little whirlpool.

I also agree with Luvfishies quickfilter comment.  this thing is a little round cylinder of sort that connects to the bottom of the powerhead, where the UGF uplift tube would normally go...  just fill it with filter floss and you have an instant water polisher.  change the floss every week and you're tank will always be crystal clear and you'll take some load off your biological system. because you are removing the mechanical waste from the tank before it can do it's ammonia/nitrate thing.

powerheads  *thumbsup2*

also - you can set them on air venturi mode - with my big 802 powerhead blowing air, I can drive air bubbles straight across the tank (48" wide)

Somonas, thanks for reminding...i posted in a hurry.

The quickfilter can also be filled with biomax, cultivate a biobed, and be an easy way to transfer a cycled "filter" in a hurry.

Also,,,,make sure that you can control the flow. On full blast the 802 creates some wicked current!

Actually all the Hagen powerheads create a lot of water movement. I can't comment on the other brands. All I can say is that I use Hagen and they work like they're supposed to.
