Is a Pre-filter into a wet/dry system for a reef tank necessary? Those hang-on boxes with the flossy cylindrical filter surrounding the hose nozzle . . .
the flossy media would be for biological filtration--which would be uneccessary in a reef system
dont trust me on this though, i dont have experience with reef tanks
What I think you are desribing is the overflow box. No it is not necessary for a reef, but it is a very reliable piece of equiptment that many people use.
