Prefilters for tap water

Would using one of these pre filters be beneficial for the fish or would it be a waste of time and money, They offer a filter cartrige that they claim filters down to 1 micron. I've also seen carbon filters for these units

If you run the micron filter the run through two carbon type filters that remove the chlorine, chloramine, and other junk its worth it. I run my FW stuff through the first three stages of my RO/DI unit which does what I described and I do not have to use conditioner anymore.

Kerry I've decided to buy two of the above units in post #1, I will use this filter cartridge in the first unit.

but in the second stage I'm not sure which is the better choice, one removes lead for twice the money, the other does not, but they are both 1 micro carbon blocks. also they are both rated for 1000 gallons so I will be replacing the second filter about every six weeks.

If you have a very old house you could have lead in the pipes but I doubt it. This is very similar to the unit I bought. 2 Output 150 GPD 5 stage Reverse Osmosis dual outlet RO DI system RQ-5BT2W-150 | eBay . You may want a larger tank or a storage unit as I have set-up. See the first three canisters? I use these first three for my FW then the RO for my fridge and drinking water, then the last DI stage for my SW.
