Pricing for my Fish...Need Help?

#1
I just got back from the LFS and found out that the owner will give me approx. a $17 in store credit for the three fish in my signature excluding the bass. please advise? Is this a good deal or am I getting ripped off? Either way these fish were given to me, so it's not like I'm attached nor have I spent any money on them, besides the two weeks of care and setting up the tank. HELP?????

Unfortunately, unless someone really wants a larger oscar or pleco, they aren't worth much. You didn't say what sort of koi you had (markings etc which you may not know) so it's hard to say what he's worth but, don't forget, the store has to gamble on their salability (with reasonable profit) and their health (coming from a new aquarist's tank etc) Since they were free, they don't owe you anything ;) any money is a profit - especially if you're getting what sounds reasonable. We haven't *seen* your fish, so we can only guess.

Would $17 get you started in realising your own tank dreams? :)

Seleya ~ Thank you for the info. I sold the fish earlier. He gave me an in store credit of $15 and I found out that the red oscar had "hole-in-the-head" from my neighbor keeping his tank too dirty for too long. He has a 6 year old boy who loved to feed the fish whether they were around or not. So I am ready to start the revamp. Well at least once I release his captive the sunfish (I found out) not a bass.

I would be nervous about releasing a fish back into native waters if it has been in an aquarium for any length of time - especially with one of the other fish being sick. How do natives keepers handle this? You may want to ask a bit further afield than the buy/sell/trade section about that before you do something regrettable.
