i would say salwater just to be safe i don't know how small of a batch you can make(non saltwater guy here), but if you make 5 gallons and keep it covered just for water changes. you might want to check readings befor you add it after it sitting there for a week or so don't know why they would change and the small change would not effect the overall effect of the tank.

by the way whats your location suposed to mean?

evaporation should be replaced by freshwater ro/di perferably.waterchanges are when you add new salt.
remember:when water evaporates, only pure water is evaporated.all mineals and salts are left behind.topping of evaporation with more salt would just raise your ph,salinity and mess up your tank.

I hope your water level drop is from evaporation.

I would also do a complete evaluation of the area around your tank for any wet spots. Having a leak would suck.

Replace evaporated water with just freshwater. (preferably R.O. Water)
