Hi, I am just trying to get my old 2 meter fish tank up and running again. Just last sunday I placed some driftwood and plants in with new gravel and now I am having trouble finding fish tank plant food. It seems that they do not import it here. So I was wondering if possible to use regular plant food which is more availiable.

I think your best option would be to try to contact a greenhouse company or landscaping company to see if you can get the chemicals you need. Probably the best thing is to ask any of your contacts if they know anyone in the business. Another possibility might be a hydroponics store, if that's likely where you are.

The main one you should look for is potassium nitrate (KNO3).

Of course the other option is to ask a friend/relative to bring you some when they come from the US.

Just a warning to you, some of the chemicals you might ask for are used for fertilizer bombs, so make sure you tell people that you want very small quantities (500g or less) for your plants :)
