Hi all

I'm building a tank 90cm x 40cm x 40cm (approx 30 gallons or 150 litres) and am wondering what size pump to use.

What rate is optimal (litres/hour) is optimal for an average amount of tropical fish for air and filtration?
I plan on using an undergravel filter.
Is it better to use a powerhead or a airpump?

Why an undergravel filter when there are soo many other options. Personally, I'm kinda partial to Hang On Back (HOB) filters, or canister. Both of which I have found to be much more productive then a UnderGravel Filter (UGF). If you were stuck on an undergravel however, then, Powerheads would be the way to go.

Well the undergravel filter is one of the cheapest methods - the others seem a bit pricey (most stuff has to be imported to South Africa!!)

Any ideas on what speed the pump should do?

did you finish the tank?

Did you build the tank? How did you do? What about the powerhead? Get something that just circulates water unless you have fish that demands flowing stream so they can get some exercise.
