Ok, if the python runs directly from your sink how do you dechlorinize the water? wait till its in the tank?!

And how can this have an effect on discus.....will it be bad for them if the water is not dechlorinized until the tank is full?

Is the python a good buy?

Gotta Love those Pythons!!!

I bought one about 6 months ago and had the same question.

Responses on this message board indicated that for the short time that the water is in the tank before adding the chemicals is not a problem . . . just add them when you are done.

Another idea is too add the chemicals directly to the water stream as it shoots into the tank (this also helps disperse the chemicals faster)

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

also, the action of the water churning in the python's hose supposedly disperses alot of the Chlorine anyway.

but with a really small water change, like 10%, you shouldnt need to dechlorinate the water anyway. your existing water (the other 90%) will help to dechlorinate the new water as well as the tanks natural aeration.

How does old tank water dechlorinate new water? I think the only way it's dechlorinated is if it runs through a filter with activated carbon.

I must have done something wrong with mine, because I had a major nightmare with it.. It wouldn't pump the water properly, the doo hickey for the water attachment doesn't fit the phaucet etc.. Any ideas would be great on how to make this work better...

You may need an optional attachment for your sink. First though . . . make sure you remove the screen fitting from the faucet to expose the thread for attaching the Python valve to the sink.

Anyone buying a Python should definately look to BigAls Online. 50ft Pythons are around $60 at Petsmart and higher at LFS but at BigAls I got mine for $35 (U.S).

I use the Python water changer and I like it very much. The plastic connector that screws to the faucet is generally incompetent; I had mine crack so I bought a brass adapter. (I've read that if the plastic one it came with breaks, Python will send you a new one free of charge (it should've been brass from the start!)). I've also wondered about when to add the dechlorinator, I've added it before and during a water change and no one's died so I guess it's all good.
