My friend's Black Convicts had babies last summer and all of them survived in the same tank with the parents and now they are getting big so he decided to give me about 9 Convicts since I had an empty tank. Is there a chance that these will breed with each other or no since they are from the same family ? or does it not matter?

Also, is there a way to tell the difference between male/female Black convicts... they are around 1.5 inches each

Thanks

Yes, they will pair and breed even if there from the same parents.
All i know about sexing is that females have little orange specks on their tummies and males do NOT have any orange specks.

What size tank are these in? What are the other tankmates?
When they breed, you probably will wanna move them to their own tank, they will get VERY agressive when breeding and could kill off the tankmates

It's just 10 Black convicts and a Pleco

When my friends' breeded these ones, (all of them survived) he didn't have to move them into another tank the two parents would stay near them and protect them from anything else that went near them until they got a little older and they all just lived as a big family becuase other than the parents there were a few other big convicts in there and they didn't really even try to bother the babies either...

(also there is one in there that's a bit bigger than the others and it has a lot of orange on its stomach and it looks like a yellowish color on some of the fins...male or female?)

probably female...pics would help determine the sex(es)

So do you know the size of the tank? If you dont know, give me the measurements (length, height, depth) and i can tell you how many gallons it holds :)

What size tank did your friend have? Also the parent cons must not have been breeding while the fry grew. If they had been breeding, the fry would have been dead.

At 1.5", i'd say they weren't in the parents tank long enough to experience the aggression. The parents would eventually start breeding again on another batch and kill off everyone else close to them.

My tank is around 60 Gallons.

My friend's tank i'm not sure on the size of his but the babies were in the tank with the parents and other bigger convicts since the beginning of the summer until about 3 days ago... his parents just never went to breed again , there was barely any aggression in his tank they just lived like a big family
