My 5 gallon tank is finally cycled(fishless). I've been checking my levels for a good week and a half now my ammonia and nitrite levels have finally lowered themselves. I've had a piece of driftwood soaking in there and like I figured it would occasionally gunk up. Would boiling help reduce this? I know that driftwood can continue to give off the slimy mess for a few months. I wasn't sure if this would help anything. Also, would it be safe to place my female betta in there? Or would the slimy bacteria hurt her at all..? There's an ivory snail in there who seems to enjoy sucking the stuff off the wood but he can only keep up with so much.
