Question about my Convicts

I got 2 convicts yesterday for the 30G(moved the Mbuna to my friends tank). I have 1 male and 1 female, there both about 2 1/2 inches. I am wondering if there are any ways to trigger spawning??? The P.H is at about 7.2, nitrite is 0, ammonia is 0, nitrate is 0, and the temp is at 80degreese F. I read that they like the temp at 77, so if i lower the temp down to 77, will that trigger spawning???? Thanks in advance for helping me out

There is no need to "trigger" spawning, convicts willl spawn on a wet paper towel if they need too. Besides, they've only been in the tank for a day, give them some time to pair up...and you should of gotten more females IMO so the pair has a better chance of being succesfull.

I can alway go back to the store and get 2 more females. I know i should wait, but i want the info so then in the future i am prepared to breed them.

Just keep doing WCs, i promise they don't need a trigger....as long as they are paired they will breed.

OK thanks matt. What about the temp, should i do anything with that or just leave it???

Just leave it, stability is the best thing in a tank

I'd leave it. When you do WCs make the water that goes back into the tank a bit cooler/warmer then the tank water (Not much) and see if that does anything.

Yeah that usually sparks breeding in mbuna, I dont see why it wouldnt do the same for cons. Good luck

Thanks you so much for the wc tip I changed 20% on monday and today my male dug a ditch under the rock i have in there(pushed it up to an angle for a cave), another ditch by the java moss, and he is dancing for the female I hope i get some bebe fisies soon!!
