Yes they do eat brown algae and some green algae but they grow to over 12 inches! It will outgrow you 30g tank not mentioning the amonut of bio-load it will produce. I would look into maybe a bristlenose pleco. They are good for Cichlid tanks.

I second the idea of the bristlenose pleco, i have 2 (plus loads of babies) and i never see algae in the tank, they keep it spic and span! lol. Commons get very big and bristlenoses do not get bigger than about 6".

I vote Bristlenose too :)
Though mine tends to prefer brown algae to green. The brown is usually easier for them to suck off than the green, or at least, that's why I've observed. It never hurts to pull out an algae pad and scrub down the tank once a week; that'll keep algae growth down.

Algae feeds off of light and nitrates, so if your Severum is creating a lot of waste, you may be getting high nitrates, which can be removed with water changes. Also, make sure the tank isn't in any direct sunlight. That may help with some of your algae too :)

Rubbernosed plecos are a good alternative, if you can't find bristlenoses. I know our local Petsmarts usually have rubbernosed plecos in stock. Rubbernoses are also sometimes called rubberlip or bulldog plecos.

Whatever you do, don't get a common pleco, no matter how small or cute they look in the store. :)

i did a 40% water change couple days ago and scrubed off the algae but it comes bak real fast. bcuz my tank is beside a big window, so that is why ill need a algae eater fast! hehe
