question for wayne on reef tank

hey wayne i just had a question for you, i have a 33 gallon sw reef tank with about 22 lbs of live rock in it i am currently using an ehiem canister filter as well as a protien skimmer, this is mainly a reef tank with a clown fish some soft and hard corals as well as various other reef safe critters, i was wondering if i could get away with just using the live rock mainly as a filter plus the protien skimmer and the ehiem minus the filter media, if i did that would it be a good idea to just use bio balls plus carbon , if i didnt make this a clear question i am sorry oh also i have 30lbs of live sand.

im not wayne, but that sounds fine to me...in fact, i would reccomend against using the filter media as it is not much more than a nitrate producer, id skip the carbon as well, and with the LR you may not need the bio balls as they do esentially the same thing

also i have 2 powerheads running in the tank one fairly powerful and one thats creating waves do you think that i ssufficient?

what is "Fairly powerful?" how many gallons per hour of water are you moving through the powerhead

the powerful one is 2000 liters/hour and i think that works out to roughly 528 gallons per hour but i could be wrong

agreed....turning the water over ~20 times per hour should be fine and dandy

sounds like an awesome set up!! i'd go with a little more live rock though just to be on the safe side...
